Earlier this summer I spent some time in Italy, and amongst other things I paid a visit to REDS Racing HQ in Brescia, in the northern part of the country. REDS is a rather young company, but the people behind it have been around RC racing for a long time. Mario Rossi is the son of Cesare Rossi, one of the founders of Rossi back in ancient times. The two founding brothers split, and Cesare and Mario started Novarossi. Then fast forward a bit, and Mario left the company. After a stint with GRP, Mario started REDS Racing, with his family, his wife Rossana, and his two children, Marco and Federica. To make things even more confusing for people on the outside, REDS made the original building Rossi started in their new home!
In a true family company even the children join in the fun, in this case Marco’s twins.
One thing I didn’t realise until my visit, was how much is actually done by REDS themselves. This isn’t a brand like many others, Mario actually works on every single engine by hand, selecting and matching parts, checking each part individually, refining the finish, adding the silicone to the crank, and balancing it to finish off. A lot of work and love goes into these engines, and that is why they are so good and reliable!
Here you can see a bunch of crankshafts with the silicone added.
Just a few pipes, ready and waiting to be packaged
REDS have a really nice facility and everything they need right at hand. The engines and most parts are made in Italy, and stored and packaged in the REDS warehouse. Orders are shipped worldwide almost every day, and when I visited, there were a lot of orders packed, waiting for the last items, or waiting to be boxed up and shipped out. Everything was super clean and organised, a very professional set up!
The JQRacing team has been extremely happy with the performance and support that we have received from REDS Racing, and are looking forward to a successful future together. Thank you to Mario, Rossana, Marco and Federica for all the support! You can see a few more pictures here.
